October 2013

MMSM is once again proud to sponsor The City of Brandon’s 3rd Annual Waste Reduction School Challenge! This two week challenge runs from October 15 to 24 as part of the national waste reduction month celebration and tasks more than 450 students with the collection of garage and recycling.

Each classroom must divert as much garbage from the City’s landfill as possible by identifying collected garbage as either waste, various recycling materials or compostable materials. The purpose is to engage students, build awareness of waste reduction issues and learn the benefits and fundamentals of the 3 R’s – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Winning classrooms of the challenge will receive reusable lunch kits, bragging rights and a photo with the Mayor.
