Not to brag, but we think that Manitoba has some of the best summers around. Here are some of our staff’s favourite outdoor, eco-friendly activities to do this time of year.

Kalin – Manager, Field Services

“One of my favourite summer activities is paddling on our lakes and rivers. CPAWS Manitoba offers $5 paddle nights on Tuesday evenings at the Manitoba Canoe and Kayak Centre.  They supply canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, and dragon boats to try. It is a great way to try out different paddle sports and it feels great to be on the water.

The paddle nights run until the end of August, so there are a couple more opportunities to check it out before summer ends.”

Karen – Executive Director

“Sitting around the bonfire, making “bush pies”, and telling stories are a great way to spend nights with friends. I also enjoy watching lightning storms and stargazing in my backyard too. There are some great apps such as StarTracker and SkyMap that can help you figure out which stars are where in the sky. And being on the water in general, fishing, paddling, rowing, or just floating.”

Kristin – Senior Manager, Field Services

“I enjoy visiting the farmers markets, especially Pineridge and St. Norbert. I’ve also been enjoying lots of family bike rides.”

Noelle – Communications Coordinator

“I love going for walks around my neighbourhood and going hiking with friends in Birds Hill Park. The AllTrails app is great for discovering new hikes and tracking your progress. I’ve also been enjoying reading outside when the weather allows.”

Sarah – Director, Marketing & Communications

“Throughout the summer I like to bike and walk as much as possible instead of driving. I also do an end of season purge and donate or recycle summer items that we no longer need.”

Susan – Municipal Reporting Coordinator & Office Administrator

“I enjoy visiting different parks and towns in Manitoba with my family and taking pictures of architecture and nature. I also take my two little dogs out for lots of walks when it’s not too hot out.”
