It’s easy! Here’s how your school can get involved:

  1. Sign up: Email carrie@takepride.mb.ca to register your school. Please include the following in your email: Your name, your school’s name, phone number, and full physical address (to arrange for bag pick up). Your school’s current K-6 enrollment (older students are welcome to participate/assist, but since this program is geared towards elementary school students, we use only the K-6 number for tracking purposes).
  2. Collect and count: Between September 30 and November 1, have all the students and teachers in your school collect as many plastic bags as possible and count and record your numbers as they arrive.

Each school will also receive a free garden box made from recycled plastic bags! The top 14 schools in rural and urban categories will receive a bench, also made from recycled plastic bags, courtesy of Trex.

In 2013, over 37,000 students from 168 schools across Manitoba saved 1,347,000 plastic bags from going to landfill! Thanks to their efforts, those bags were sent to Trex to be recycled into beautiful things like birdhouses, park benches, and garden boxes!
