We finished off our 2019 MMSM Bag Up Manitoba Challenge with 166 schools participating across the province. Over the month of October, they collected over 1.2 million plastic bags for recycling!
Our Bag Up Manitoba Challenge educates students, staff and families about the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling plastic bags, while diverting bags from landfill. The plastic bags that were collected, were recycled right here in Winnipeg by ReGen Composites.
All of the participating schools were given Frisbees made from recycled plastic bags. In addition, six schools were awarded a bench via random draw. The benches were made locally using recycled material, including wood chips, plastic bags and hard plastics.
A special thank you to all participating schools and our friends at Take Pride Winnipeg!, ReGen Composites, Gardwine Group and GFL for their support on this important initiative.
