Championing Residential Recycling for 15 Years

In April 2010, MMSM launched one of North America’s first shared Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programs for consumer printed paper and packaging (PPP) in Manitoba, where producers help fund residential recycling programs.

Here’s a look at what we’ve accomplished together since then:

Recovered over 947 million kilograms of PPP through residential recycling.

Increased the recovery rate of PPP from 52% in 2010 to 71.8% in 2023*.

Provided over $216 million to Manitoba communities for their residential recycling costs.

Spent over $5.58 million on promotion and education.

95% of Manitobans have access to residential recycling.

Partnered with several organizations to fund and coordinate the Winter Road Project, which recovers PPP and other materials from remote northern communities.

Reflecting on these achievements has been inspiring as we continue our mission to advance residential recycling. But these achievements wouldn’t have happened without each resident’s commitment. Our Because of You campaign highlights the impacts that individual efforts make. It’s a tribute to you.

We hope you’re as proud of yourself as we are. Thank you for making a difference in our province.
