Slurpees are a Manitoba summertime staple. Here’s what to do with the cup, lid, and straw next time you get one.

After you’re finished your Slurpee (hopefully you didn’t get a brain freeze!) Make sure they’re empty before you drop them in the bin.

Recyclable in your blue bin:

  • Plastic lids
  • Clear plastic cups

Unaccepted items (Please don’t put these items in your blue bin.)

  • Plastic or paper straws
  • Paper cups

The paper Slurpee cups (like other paper cups) aren’t accepted in the recycling bin because they contain a thin layer of plastic called polyethylene. This type of plastic requires special processing to separate from the paper content of the cup. However, recycling tech is evolving and we’re always looking for opportunities to accept more materials. Check our website to see if these cups will be accepted for recycling in the future.
